Death knocks
I listen with breathe withheld
The churning cogs of time
Keep turning
Even as you prepare to greet
Deaths icy touch at your door
I sit and lament what could have been
Knowing now that timeline’s fading
I listen for the ringing
To tell me you’ve moved along
I see gram waiting
And soon you will be in her arms
I’m sorry our time wasn’t more fulfilling
I’ll miss you, even though the pain
Of brokenness separated us long ago
Rest now daddy, and let goodness
take you
I will hope for us to meet again
Where we can love more freely
until then, let go
And I will listen for your whispers
Softly flowing in the wind
